Care Home in Maidstone

Welcome to Loose Valley Care Home; a Nursing and Residential care home overlooking the picturesque and tranquil valley of Loose.

Character and charm

Formerly an old vicarage, the Home is a beautiful building which is located close to Staplehurst and Maidstone town centre.

The building itself boasts many original period features, with cosy lounges, a spacious dining room and bright and airy conservatory. Our private grounds are abundant with wildlife including our very own rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens and frog pond. The gardeners amongst us love wiling away the hours on our allotment growing all kinds of vegetables and we make the most of being outdoors, planting flowers or simply relaxing and socialising in the fresh air.

Home from home

Loose Valley is friendly and relaxed, with a real home from home environment for all the people we care for. Everyone is treated as an individual and we support choice and independence whilst providing meaningful person-centred care.

We understand how important it is for our residents to feel comfortable in their new surroundings, so we encourage everyone to bring their own belongings and treasured photos or ornaments to make their rooms familiar and homely. And for our Housekeeping and Maintenance teams, no job is too big or too small to add those finishing touches.

Resident of the Day

‘Resident of the Day’ helps us to understand and celebrate our residents’ likes and dislikes and the things that really make a difference to them. All staff – whether Carers, Nurses, Housekeepers or Maintenance – find out what’s important to each individual and give them the opportunity to pick their favourite meal for Chef to prepare, choose an activity they would like to do or add any special touches to their room. Family members are invited to be a part of this and we always provide feedback when their loved one has been Resident of the Day.

Recreation and leisure

To ensure that everyone continues to enjoy their own interests and hobbies, our Recreation and Well-Being team plan daily activities and outings in our minibus, seven days a week. We’re perfectly placed for visiting Leeds Castle and Mote Park, as well as boat trips along the River Medway and days out for fish and chips at the seaside in Sheerness. We also enjoy coffee at the nearby garden centre, pub lunches and taking in shows at the Hazlitt Theatre.

We also open our doors to singers and entertainers for a good sing-along, relax with Pilates sessions and get hands-on with arts and crafts and cake making. Family and friends are always welcome to join us and we’re lucky to be supported by some amazing volunteers who enthusiastically help out with our events and activities. We’re very much part of the community and have close ties with local schools whose choirs perform for us and our nearby church who visit the Home to offer communion each month.

Nutrition and dining

We know how important it is for our residents to remain as independent as possible and to continue making their own choices; none so important as when it comes to food. Our Chef and Cooks create menus based around individual likes and dislikes, using local, fresh produce to create seasonal, home-made dishes. Our Nutritional Therapist, Leni, works alongside them to assess for any special nutritional needs and feedback is always encouraged to make sure that our menus remain varied and exciting. Mealtimes are always sociable, with a glass of wine on offer and room for relatives who wish to join us. Our conservatory can also be used for private family events or get-togethers.

interactiveMe and Namaste sessions

We’re delighted to offer our residents ‘interactiveMe’; a bespoke online memory box packed full of photos, music and videos all about them. It creates an amazing talking point, enabling meaningful conversations and allows Carers to really get to know our residents well. The whole experience is designed to promote personal well-being.

More on InteractiveMe

We’re also excited to provide our residents with Namaste sessions, bringing comfort and support in a calm and tranquil environment. Each week, our Recreation & Well-Being Champions offer sensory activities and gentle hand massages to our residents, whilst they enjoy a chat and listen to soft spa music in our dedicated Namaste room.

Experienced Staff Team

Loose Valley’s Manager, Paula, has been part of the Nellsar family for over 15 years. Her experience from years of nursing and caring for the elderly make her compassionate and approachable, and her passion for supporting her residents and their families is clear to see.

Paula is supported by a loyal and longstanding team of staff with years of experience under their belt; over 15, 20 or even 30 years for some! The Home also supports university students as they begin their careers in Care and Nursing.

As well as caring for your loved one, we are also here to support you and we form strong relationships with relatives and friends. Our special events and celebrations are the perfect chance for everyone to get together, whether for a summer fete, ‘Day at the Races’ themed afternoon, charity fundraising event or one of our seasonal celebrations taking place throughout the year.

We would be delighted to welcome you to Loose Valley and show you around our wonderful Home. Please feel free to visit us anytime or call 01622 745 959 to discuss any questions you may have.

Meet the Manager

Hello, my name is Paula Persaud and I’m the Manager of Loose Valley Care Home. We provide excellent person-centred Nursing care, with dignity and respect. We have 32 single rooms, varying in size and character – 22 with en-suite facilities, 2 with wet rooms and 8 without. The Care Home is a converted former vicarage, which has been extended over the years that it has been run as a Care Home. Owing to the differing characteristics of the property, it delivers intrigue around every corner.

Our Administrative area is at the entrance to the Care Home, where you are welcomed at the Reception by our friendly staff. Leading off from the Reception area is the Goldsbrough Suite (so-named after its architect). There are 11 very generously sized rooms, with a large bathroom and shower-room furnished with the latest specialist equipment.
