St Patrick’s Day fun and Nutrition & Hydration Week at Loose Valley Care Home

Celebrating Ireland

On Tuesday 17 March, our residents at Loose Valley Care Home in Maidstone came together to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, honouring Ireland’s patron saint with music, decorations and shared memories.

At lunchtime, the sounds of Daniel O’Donnell filled our Home, setting a warm and festive tone for the day. We transformed our conservatory with a colourful backdrop featuring a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, alongside Irish flags, handmade shamrocks and traditional Irish greeting posters. Even a few Guinness cans were included as playful props to add to the theme!

Our ladies and gents enjoyed singing along to favourite Irish songs and reminiscing about visits to Dublin and Belfast. Conversation turned to the beauty of the Wicklow Mountains, Killarney, Galway Bay and Waterford, famous for its crystal. We also discussed Belfast’s historic shipbuilding heritage, including the Titanic, as well as the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin and the Jameson Distillery in Midleton, County Cork.

A themed quiz and interesting facts about Ireland sparked discussion, and the day was particularly meaningful to our resident Jimmy, who emigrated to England from Ireland when he was younger.

Nutrition and Hydration Week

As part of Nutrition and Hydration Week, we focused on refreshing and nourishing options for our residents. On Tuesday we served a colourful juice trolley offering orange, pineapple and apple juice served with fresh orange slices.

In the afternoon, our ladies and gents were treated to beautiful fresh fruit platters delivered to their rooms, featuring grapes, pineapple and slices of watermelon for a light and refreshing boost. It was a lovely way to encourage hydration while offering healthy, enjoyable choices.
