On Thursday 12 June a group of our Loose Valley Care Home gents Trevor, David and Bob, plus Trevor’s son Jeremy, were very excited to take a boat trip together on the Kingfisher, an adventure which takes four hours as passengers cruise down the river from Wateringbury Marina.
The Kingfisher boat is specially adapted for wheelchair users with an inbuilt platform lift. It’s an electric boat and has solar panels on its deck and roof, so it’s lovely and quiet as you slowly journey along the river.
We cruised down stream to Teston lock where we went through and underneath the old pack bridge. Our team members Paula and Hayley helped unlock the locks and had a go at steering the boat. Tea and coffee was served by the crew, and we arrived at East Farleigh bridge after two hours; this is where we moored up to have the picnic we bought with us.
Our gents said how much they enjoyed the relaxing cruise at four knots down the river. The sun was shining and it was warm, calm and so peaceful. They enjoyed the scenery and feeding the swans and ducks that came right up to the boat.

It was an amazing trip and the Kingfisher crew were so friendly – thank you to them for a wonderful day, thoroughly enjoyed by us all.
