On Tuesday 23 December here at Loose Valley Care Home, we were delighted to celebrate Lilian’s 93rd birthday, with her daughter Hazel spending the day with her. Our residents joined together to sing ‘Happy birthday’, making it a truly special occasion.
Lilian enjoyed a classic Victoria sponge cake and was surrounded by cards and thoughtful gifts from her family. The day also included a carol service, a Christmas quiz, and wonderful conversations about Christmas past, which everyone enjoyed sharing together.

Christmas Day itself was filled with warmth and festive cheer. Many of our residents welcomed visits from family and friends, while others chose to enjoy a peaceful and relaxed day at our Home. Throughout the day, we chatted about what Christmas means to us and shared memories of games we used to play – or still enjoy playing – during the festive season. Seasonal music played softly in the background during lunch and throughout the day, adding to the atmosphere.
The highlight was a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, followed by themed desserts including a Rudolf cheesecake, gingerbread cake with toffee sauce and cream, and, of course, Christmas pudding with custard. Yum!
In the afternoon, our residents took part in a game of bingo, with prizes awarded for one line and a full house. The game proved so popular that a rematch was requested, and everyone enjoyed another round!
Three residents spent Christmas Day with their families and returned later in the afternoon after having a wonderful time.
It was a joyful festive period and it was lovely to share it with our friends and family.
