It was a very special day at Loose Valley Care Home as our oldest resident, Molly, celebrated her incredible 103rd birthday on Sunday 9 November. The day was filled with joy and heartfelt moments as Molly opened her birthday cards and received beautiful bouquets of flowers from friends and family. Our team made sure the day felt truly special, singing “Happy Birthday” as Molly enjoyed her favourite — a freshly baked Victoria sponge cake, lovingly made by Debby at Molly’s own request.
A life full of memories and hard work
Molly shared her secret to a long and happy life – plenty of fresh air! During her younger years, she worked as a land girl on her parents’ farm in Chiddingstone during the war. She fondly remembers milking the cows and tending to the sheep, as her father was a shepherd. Those happy years on the farm shaped her into the cheerful, down-to-earth country girl she still is today.
After her time on the farm, Molly worked as a cook at a school and later in the army – both roles she looks back on with pride and joy. Her warm smile and love of conversation brighten everyone’s day here at our Home.
A shared celebration
Adding an extra touch of joy to the day, Molly was delighted to share her birthday with her favourite singer, Kevin Walsh – though, as she loves to point out with a smile, their birthdays are “decades apart!” It was a wonderful celebration, marking another milestone in Molly’s remarkable life.
