Special wedding anniversary celebrations at Loose Valley Care Home

We were very excited to celebrate a wonderful wedding anniversary at Loose Valley Care Home on Thursday 7 September.

Doug and Irene have been married for a fantastic 55 years! They tied the knot in 1968 and what a beautiful bride Irene was. Doug told us they got married in St Marys in Bexley. Irene wore a full-length white wedding dress with a lace top and held a beautiful bouquet of flowers. They had two bridesmaids in peach dresses and a page boy. It was a big wedding; lots of guests filled the church, with a reception at a local Working Men’s Club and a lovely three-tiered wedding cake. They had just bought a house so opted for an overnight stay in a local hotel for the night for their honeymoon. When they got home the next day, Doug carried Irene over the threshold.

They’ve enjoyed their married life together, which has blessed them with two children and 30 years living in Alicante in Spain.

To mark their very special day at Loose Valley we set a table for two under our gazebo, decorated with red love hearts and red roses. The pair enjoyed a celebration sponge cake with cream and strawberries, plus a pint of Guinness for Doug and a Prosecco for Irene, with some romantic tunes playing in the background.

Paula from our Recreation and Well-Being Team made the couple a beautiful anniversary wooden love heart, with a wedding day photo and a photo she’d taken that day. Doug now has this hanging up in his room.

The couple were surprised and thankful for their anniversary treats and we looked through their wedding album and all the gorgeous photos of their wedding day.

Happy anniversary to a very special couple!
