Loose Valley Care Home Wear it Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

With Breast Cancer Awareness month being October, we celebrated with a special tea party here at Loose Valley Care Home on Thursday 19. Our residents and team members went ‘all out ‘ and loved getting dressing up in all shades of pink!

Decorations, food and games galore

Loose Valley was beautifully bedecked with pink bunting and balloons, glitter pictures on the windows, and beautiful fresh flowers. Our Recreation and Well-Being team member Paula made pink ladies out of wool as gifts for every resident and our wonderful Care Assistants, along with pink ribbons that she sold to raise donations for a Breast Cancer Awareness charity.

We enjoyed a tasty tea of pink cakes on pretty stands and finger sandwiches with posh tea cups and matching plates. We drank tea from a fancy white tea pot and bone china cups, which somehow make the tea taste different and more decadent! Our resident Doug was instructing the ladies on “How to hold the tea cup daintily with the little finger out and no slurping.”

Our residents channelled their competitive side with games of bingo; we had many prizes on offer, all hand made by our lovely Paula.

We also enjoyed an afternoon arts and crafts class making glitter pictures. Every picture was pink, of course, whether that be a cat, elephant, panther, bike, ribbon, hippo, car, silhouettes of ballerinas or ladies in different styles of dresses. We used lots of glue and glitter – as you would expect it was a fun, messy afternoon.

It was a wonderful afternoon with lots of chatting between our residents, who shared memories of going out to cafés.
