D-Day Remembrance Show at Loose Valley Care Home

This year’s D-Day on Thursday 6 June marked 80 years since the Normandy landings upon the beaches of Juno, Sword, Gold, Omaha and Utah – and we were keen to remember this important occasion here at Loose Valley Care Home.

Our Activities Team read stories of the men and woman who experienced the frontline of defence, in their words, which we made into scrapbooks. We chatted about them and the sacrifices they made for their country and how young they were – aged 17 being the youngest soldier to die on the beaches.

We watched the memorial service on television and the King at Normandy, with all the dignitaries leaving poppy wreaths for the fallen.

Our Catering Team prepared a wonderful BBQ lunch, with burgers, sausages, chicken, lamb kebabs, sides of baby potatoes with spring onions, homemade coleslaw, and delicious BBQ sauce.

In the afternoon we were delighted to welcome Kevin Walsh to our Home for a fantastic D-Day Remembrance Show which included a wartime singalong with lots of interaction and engagement. Kevin was dressed in a Navy officer uniform – everyone loves a sailor!

What a truly special day of stories and memories, music and celebration.
