We got inspired at Loose Valley Care Home on Thursday 19 September and prepared for a lively ‘Talk Like A Pirate Day’!
With pirate outfits, masks and eye patches, we certainly looked the part! We had silhouette pirate ships and everyone enjoyed taking part in saying ‘Ahoy, me hearties!’ – learning to speak like a pirate with all their famous sayings.
In the afternoon we enjoyed music with Phil and Cathy playing the organ. One tune we definitely had to sing was ‘What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor‘, so we had a great singalong with them.
Our afternoon tea was pirate-themed with table cloths, plates, napkins, pirate booty and mini iced cakes with edible rice paper toppers featuring pirate pictures. One of our shipmates decided she wanted a sticker with ‘Rum’ written on it to put on her glass of squash!
Each of our residents also had their own placemat with a pirate picture and their name on it, and everyone wanted to take them back to their rooms which was lovely.
Recreation and Well-Being Champion Paula made the posters, and Jisna and Paula had to get pirate Billy involved! Our Home Manager Diana was ‘Nellsar Captain‘ and a poster was put on her door, plus one for our Chef Joe and one for Kirsty from our Reception and Admin Team.
We had pirate jokes being told throughout the day to make our residents laugh and we certainly had a great giggle, ya scally wags!!
