Residents at Loose Valley Care Home enjoy virtual Pet Therapy

Our volunteer David and his lovely Pet Therapy lurcher dog Herbie usually visit us twice a week at Loose Valley Care Home and we love to stroke and fuss over Herbie! Unfortunately they have been unable to come and see us during this lockdown period.

However, with the wonders of technology, we have been able to connect with them both online, which has been amazing.

We’ve been taking our tablet and mobile around to our bedrooms with David and Herbie live on screen, so our residents can have a chat and ‘virtually’ stroke Herbie. Alas, no biscuits for him at the moment (…he loves getting treats from our residents usually!).

Herbie is an ideal dog for these therapy session as he is so gentle and calm with everybody and is always up for some fuss (or should we say, lots of fuss!).

We held one session in the morning and one in the afternoon, so all our residents got a virtual visit. They were delighted that they didn’t have to miss out on their Pet Therapy session and it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces.

We thanked David and are all very much looking forward to seeing him with Herbie when this current situation is all over. We’ll make sure we have doggie treats at the ready!
