Our Pearly Queen Sue came to perform a special Remembrance show for us at Loose Valley Care Home, with a good ole East end singalong!
‘Roll out the Barrel‘, ‘The Lambeth Walk‘, ‘Hokey cokey‘ and ‘I’ve got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts‘ – we sang them all! Our residents got involved waving their Union Jack flags and joining in with ‘Land of Hope and Glory‘ and ‘God save the King‘. It truly was a rousing performance.
Sue told us all about the history of Pearly Queens and Kings, how they were called ‘Costermongers’ and how the toffs’ pearl buttons would fall off their jackets and they would pick them up and collect them! She came around to each resident after the performance and answered questions on the history of the London Borough and lifestyles from years ago. She told us that her title of ‘Queen of Silvertown’ was handed down from her grandmother then to her mother, then it will go to Sue’s daughter who said she will gladly keep up the tradition.
It was a wonderful afternoon of entertainment enjoyed by all, and of course Billy joined in with his army hat and posed for his photo!
