Flower inspired quizzes and crafts
With last week’s Chelsea Flower Show as our inspiration, we’ve had a wonderful few days of flower-themed activities here at Loose Valley Care Home, including flower picture quizzes, making keyrings and card making.
We started on Sunday with a fabulous flower picture quiz; each of our residents had five flowers to name in front of them and had to match the name cards to the corresponding flower photos. We then held a general flower quiz, with lots of interesting facts shared, and enjoyed some flower-related word searches.
Our residents enjoyed a wonderful session together making colourful keyrings which were made up of flower pictures and alphabet bead decorations, spelling out each person’s name or a word of their choice. This was a great activity for concentration, as well as creative expression, as everyone took time to select exactly the colours and styles they wanted to use. The versatile beads provided a multi-sensory experience too, and our residents definitely needed co-ordination to thread their beads onto the elastic.
Lillian wanted her keyring to say ‘Star’ and she made her daughter one too. Paula helped Grace to make one, and Doug made his with bright neon stars beads attached. Everyone found it very relaxing and enjoyable, and we were delighted with our nice keepsakes.
We also had fun making flower cards with floral stickers and motifs.

Jewellery making
Continuing with our creative theme, on Tuesday we held a necklace and bracelet making group, using our fabulous selection of beads in all colours and shapes.
It was a very enjoyable afternoon, with a few challenges to thread the beads on the elastic, but our residents managed with a little help from our team members, and you could see everyone focusing on the task at hand.
Doug made three bracelets for his granddaughters and grandson, which were super.
It’s been fantastic to see our residents socialising through these creative activities and showing off their personal tastes and styles. Great job everyone!
