Celebrating National Burger Day at Loose Valley Care Home

Thursday 22 August was ‘National Burger Day’ so we had some fun here at Loose Valley Care Home.

Burgers are popular fast food – often served with pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, onion rings and cheese accompanied by chips (Monday was ‘International Potato Day!). So our team member Paula made burgers of all sizes (some with cheese and some plain), some with lettuce and tomatoes all in a bun made out of felt, accompanied by some French fries! They were fun to make and made a lively addition to our ‘American diner’ themed table with its red and white checked tablecloth.

We also had real burgers on the menu! Our residents had a wonderful time savouring the taste of delicious burgers with a choice of beef, chicken or minted lamb, with sides of fried onions, lettuce, tomato and homemade coleslaw. As Joe was cooking the burgers we named our diner after him – ‘Joe’s Diner‘ – and made some menus for the table.

We also learned some interesting facts about burgers during the day including how they are served differently in other countries (without as bun in China, topped with ham in Mexico), and how Elvis Presley loved burgers and experimented with different toppings including bananas and eggs!
