Australia Day at Loose Valley Care Home

To mark Australia Day this year at Loose Valley Care Home, our residents took part in some fun Australian-themed activities to celebrate everything ‘down under’.

We hosted themed quizzes and enjoyed puzzles together – both great ways to get the brains ticking over! We looked at animals that live in Australia and no where else – koalas, wombat, kangaroo, echidnas, platypus and quokka, and had fun guessing what Aussie slang words meant, including: ‘G’day sport‘, ‘arvo‘, ‘dunny‘, ‘brekky‘ and ‘budgie smugglers‘ to name a few!

We made a vibrant environment for our residents, aimed to immerse them fully in virtual travel, as it’s such a fun way to learn about a country.

Our residents posed with our friendly shark, snake, wombat, kangaroo, koala and platypus in front of the Aussie backdrop, flag and aboriginal dot painting. Our cat Billy of course came too and joined us in the outback with Paula the Ranger. He is very well travelled and his passport is full of stamps!

Greece is our next travel destination in February, we can’t wait!
