An African adventure at Loose Valley Care Home

Our African adventure into the jungle on safari set off on Thursday 29 September here at Loose Valley Care Home.

This is part of our continued ‘Armchair Travels’ with everyone deciding on Africa, with fun facts, quizzes, food and games to look forward to! Our residents really enjoy talking about the countries we’ve been visiting and are keen to know about the locations we visit and exotic lands in a meaningful manner.

So they sat back for a virtual trip from our jungle conservatory, with African flavours; we sampled tropical fruit salad and Mount Kilimanjaro desserts – individual meringues with cream and a raspberry on top!

Paula from our Recreation and Well-Being Team made some wonderful felt African animals including lions, elephants, meerkats, hyena, rhino, antelope, vulture, zebra, giraffe, monkeys, hippo and many more. Anaconda snakes were in the trees and also a parrot!

And of course our Home cat Billy came too and met some wild animals including a lion which is a cousin of the domestic cat (he liked that!).

Paula was dressed as a Safari Ranger and made our residents into Deputy Rangers with straw hats and badges.

Our residents’ families were sent a postcard from their loved ones and each of our residents received an African animal as a souvenir of their travels, which they loved.

We enjoyed games of pairs when we had fun matching up the safari animals or African currency.

What a joyous jungle adventure!
